Trends come and go quickly, but whether you love them or hate then they’re certainly fun to look at. Pinterest is the place to go for home design these days, so it’s no surprise that they know what trends to expect this year. They’ve recently released their predictions for home design trends in 2019, so here they are!
Yellow has been having a comeback moment, and according to Pinterest mustard yellow, in particular, will be popular this year. Searches for mustard yellow are up 45% from last year. The great thing about a popular accent color is that you can use it as little or as much as you’d like. Paint a bold accent wall or simply get a few yellow pillows!
It’s chilly out, and many people with custom homes in Toronto are looking for ways to warm up. Fireplaces are becoming more popular as they’re both aesthetically pleasing and practical. Indoor and outdoor fireplaces will be popular this year, but especially contemporary ones. So if you’re wondering what style of fireplaces to put into your custom home this year, consider a sleek modern one!
Art comes in many different forms, and we’re a firm believer that one should love the art in their home. But if you’re stuck on decorating know that textile art will be a popular trend in 2019. Art made out of fabric, such as yarn, is becoming more popular. In fact, Pinterest says searches for textile art is up 1718%!
Last year it was all about statement ceilings, but this year people want their walls to pop, especially with geometric paint. The great thing about this trend is that it’s fairly easy to DIY with a little tape and some imagination. Colorful geometric shapes are a trend we can certainly get behind and will make any Toronto custom home pop!
While many of the trends on this list lean more towards modern or mid-century modern, there is also some vintage inspiration too. Tin was a popular material used in Victorian and Tudor homes back in the day. Tin ceilings, in particular, were popular in bathrooms and kitchens. Now it appears people want that vintage charm again as searches for tin interiors, everything from backsplashes to ceilings, is up by 563%!
We’re all in favor of greenery in the home. Not only do plants make great décor items, but they’re also great for the environment! Last year colorful and patterned plants were big, but this year cacti are making a comeback. Succulents are great plants for décor, as they need very little water or maintenance, so this trend is safe even for those that don’t have a green thumb!
This trend may take a bit more of a green thumb, but vertical gardens are expected to be a hit this year. According to Pinterest, searches for vertical gardens are up by 287%. Vertical gardens provide floor to ceiling greenery in the home, both inside and out. Give them a try this year!
Painted Floor Tiles
Tile is having a moment again and we’re here for it. Tile is one of our favorite flooring materials as it’s durable and comes in tons of design options. Painted tile, in particular, will be popular this year. So get ready to embrace bold colors and patterns!
Bold Print Wallpaper
Wallpaper used to be something only for your grandmother’s home. Thankfully wallpaper has come a long way since then. It’s not easier to apply (and remove, thankfully), and comes in tons of amazing prints. Bold printed wallpaper will be huge this year! If it scares you, use it in smaller spaces like bathrooms as these spaces can handle a bolder pattern.
Natural Swimming Pools
Not many Toronto custom homes have swimming pools, but if you’re putting one in, consider making it a natural swimming pool. Natural swimming pools use rocks to make it look as if it was made by nature. They’re also often filled with salt water so there is no need to swim in harsh chemicals like chlorine.
