We haven’t entered the new year yet, but major paint brands have already released their 2020 colors of the year! Paint is one of the quickest, easiest, and cheapest ways to refresh your home. It’s a great way to make your custom home feel brand new again! So here are the 2020 paint colors of the year to try!
Pantone: Classic Blue
Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year evokes the peaceful calm of dusk. Classic Blue is a cross between a traditional bright blue and an elegant navy. This color is timeless and simple, perfect for any area of your custom home. Pantone describes the color as “a solid and dependable blue hue that we can always rely on.”
Sherwin Williams: Naval
Navy is the new neutral! SW Naval is the perfect navy color. It’s a rich shade that creates a calm yet confident environment. Navy has been having a moment lately, and that’s going to extend into 2020. Not only does navy work well with just about every other color, it’s a color that also acts like a neutral. Think of navy paint like denim jeans, they work with everything!
Benjamin Moore: First Light
At first glance, a soft pink might not seem like a color that would work well in most spaces. But BM First Light is a gorgeous color that is much more sophisticated than most light pinks. According to Benjamin Moore, they select this color to reflect a new definition of the home, “a shift in mindset from the material to satisfying the core needs in life: community, comfort, security, self-expression, authenticity and ultimately, optimism.”
Behr: Back to Nature
Sometimes paint colors don’t relate to the color at all, but Behr’s name choice here is perfect for this shade of green. Behr describes this green as “calm, gracious, and balanced”. If you want a warm yet soothing color that brings the outside in then try out Behr’s 2020 color of the year. According to the company, they wanted to tap into the calmness people get from being in nature, and green was the perfect choice as “it’s kind of like nature’s neutral”.
PPG: Chinese Porcelain
Inspired by the rich cobalt blue of traditional Chinese porcelain, PPG’s color of the year is absolutely stunning. This rich and moody blue creates a calm yet hopeful mood. The company was inspired by the current trend of escaping technology and sought out a color that would bring customers back to natural elements like the sea and sky.
Once again, rather than limit themselves to one color, Valspar has selected 12 colors that they think will define 2020. As with the other paint brands, these colors are all nature-inspired.
- Winter Calm: A calming greige
- Mint Whisper: a crisp mint
- Canyon Earth: A warm peachy orange
- Grey Brook: A pale bluish grey
- Tempered Sage: A sunny green
- Desert Fortress: A warm beige
- Secluded garden: A vibrant and jewel-toned green
- Bombay Pink: A mature but cheerful pink
- Pale Powder: A warm neutral

One thing that all of these shades have in common is that they were inspired by nature. Soft, calming vibes that bring the outside in will be on-trend for 2020! Any of these colors are perfect for your custom home!
